Texas State University Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a lecturer in Musical Theatre Dance. This position will work closely with the Head of Musical Theatre Dance to shape the dance curriculum for the musical theatre program. The successful candidate will provide musical theatre students with a strong technical foundation allowing movement to be achieved safely, efficiently, and repeatedly, as well as guide students in harnessing their own authentic moment styles. The position additionally includes mentoring students on the musical theatre choreography track, collaborating with the musical theatre faculty in recruitment, additional service based activities to the department, and choreographing and/or directing university productions. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Requirements

Required:

  • National recognition and/or professional credits as a performer and/or choreographer.
  • Experience teaching jazz and ballet techniques.
  • Experience as a choreographer.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the current professional market regionally, touring, and on Broadway.
  • Training in Alexander Technique, Modern, and/or Pilates.
  • Strong understanding of Kinesiology.
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater, Dance, or comparable training and professional experience.
  • Commitment to developing diversity, equity, and inclusion in and out of the classroom and throughout the program and department.
  • Dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration within the musical theatre curriculum.
  • Interest and focus on research.
  • Innovation in teaching methodologies that promote wellness, strong sense of self, with a focus on decolonizing curriculum, and culturally responsive methods.
