International Theatermakers Award

The International Theatermakers Award recognizes the critical contribution of theatermakers from around the world to the American theater in spite of the barriers they face to work in the United States, and seeks to expand the participation of international theatermakers who are underrepresented in the American theater industry by offering free of charge, legal assistance by Dyer Harris LLP in applying for an O-1B artist visa (including related filing charges) to up to five international theatermakers, selected by a panel of experts led by The Playwrights Realm.

Requirements

Up to five winners are awarded no-cost legal assistance in petitioning an O-1(b) visa, which is granted to recognized international artists who wish to work in their field in the US.
Applicants will be scored on the following criteria:

Artistic Merit: Recognized excellence of the artist’s past work around the world, including but not limited to the United States.

Artistic Promise: Expectation of the artist to continue to produce work of exceptional merit.

Contribution: Contribution to the field including creative work and leadership which expands the artists represented in American theater, especially supporting historically underrepresented and/or underprivileged voices.
