Organizational Summary:
Playwrights Horizons is a writer’s theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary U.S. playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.

Director of Development

Position Summary:
Playwrights Horizons, an award winning off-Broadway theater located in the heart of Manhattan, is seeking an Individual Giving Manager who will serve as the primary front-line fundraiser for the Development office. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position will actively prospect, cultivate and solicit individual donors for annual, planned and special project gifts. This role oversees the Individual Giving Associate, and will work very closely with the Fundraising Committee of the board.

Responsibilities:
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a personal portfolio of high level ($5,000+) donors and prospects
Create individual engagement, stewardship plans, and giving goals for each individual donor based on giving history, relationship, and the organization’s knowledge of the donor’s giving potential
Develop new methods of donor cultivation and outreach to help fulfill Playwrights Horizons mission and vision
Partner with Associate Director, Institutional Giving and Campaign to enhance relationships and create greater fundraising and outreach possibilities
Work with the Director of Development to identify planned giving, reserve fund, and major donor prospects
Identify and manage opportunities to include board members and colleagues from across the organization in donor cultivation efforts
Coordinate all fundraising outreach and planning for annual gala and other similar fundraising and donor-related events
Craft effective proposals, reports, acknowledgements, and other donor-related and/or board-facing communications.
Create Moves Management system and participate in maintaining an organized system for donor stewardship by updating constituent records, as appropriate
Able to work some nights and very occasionally on weekends

Required Qualifications:
Three to five years of relationship building and front line solicitation or sales experiences is essential.
Understanding of Playwrights Horizons’ mission, values and the ability to be an effective spokesperson.
Demonstrated success cultivating and stewarding strong relationships with donors and prospects leading to successful realization of funding goals
Experience with annual fund campaigns including direct mail and online solicitation
Self-starter with a strong work ethic and a fine-tuned attention to detail who can work independently and with a team to set priorities, plan for, manage, and quickly adapt as necessary to implement multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
Experience in budget management
Database experience (Tessitura preferred)

Work from the office a minimum of 3 days per week
