Governors Island Ice Sculpture Competition

Time Square Arts x Governors Island is hosting an open call for New York City-based artists for their annual Ice Sculpture competition. No prior ice carving experience required!

Artists of all disciplines and experience levels are invited to submit a love-themed ice sculpture proposal online by December 8, 2023 at govisland.org/ice-show

10 Artist Finalists will be awarded $2,000 each

Each Finalist will be paired with a professional ice artist from Okamoto Studio for a live ice carving of the artist’s project proposal taking place on Governors Island (2/3/23)

The Winner of the Governors Island competition will have their design carved in a larger scale to be on display in Times Square on Valentine’s Day as part of the district’s holiday events.

Requirements

This is an opportunity for artists to experiment with new ideas in the public realm, and utilize both Times Square Arts and Governors Island as a valuable resource. Both organization’s legacies include decades of championing both emerging and established artists.
