The 2022 GALLIM Residency, funded by The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowships with leadership support from Jody and John Arnhold | Arnhold Foundation and additional support from the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, and First Republic Bank, is a process-based residency in the GALLIM Studio in Brooklyn for Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Hispanic, Latino/a/x, and people of color movement artists who are female-identifying, non-binary, transgender and gender nonconforming, ages 18-30. The residency invites diverse, expansive, and individualized versions of the creative process and nurtures artists at all stages of creation, research, training, and development. This residency is open to, but not limited to, choreographers, dance filmmakers, educators, and performers using a Marley sprung floor.

We are also so honored and excited to have Yara Travieso as our Panel Head. Yara is a Brooklyn-based writer, director, filmmaker, and choreographer who is currently on faculty at The Juilliard School teaching an original course on Film/New Media. Her work has often explored Latin America and womanhood, alongside her activism for Latin American womxn’s rights. Her experience as an educator, performer, and creative will help shape and support the panel and ultimately the residencies.
