The U.S. Department of Arts and Culture (USDAC) was founded in 2013 as a people-powered department— a grassroots action network inciting creativity and social imagination to shape a culture of empathy, equity, and belonging. We connect artists, organizers, and allies in an ever-expanding learning community by sharing vital information and creative tactics, taking action together, and devising policies and programs to catalyze culture shift in the service of social and environmental justice. (The USDAC is not a government agency.)

Since its founding in 2013, the USDAC has grown into a grassroots network of over 30,000 artists, organizers, educators, community leaders and allies joining together for shared learning and action. We’re so excited to bring on these new teammates to join us in growing capacity, activating our collective potential, and deepening our strategy to meet the moment.

These new additions come in a year of big change! After more than six years of leadership, USDAC founder and Chief Instigator, Adam Horowitz, moved into a support role, where he’s been offering invaluable advice as the team continues to keep the movement going! Also this year, we bid farewell to USDAC’s Co-Director and Minister of Collaboration and Activation, Gabrielle Uballez. Her needed shift to focus on family care and community activism in the early days of COVID-19 gave the USDAC a chance to really step into our values and honor her needs. We see this new growth as an extension and an honoring of the work they’ve laid down, that you’ve supported and plugged into, and that everyone in our community has helped to shape.
