San Diego Miramar College welcomes applications for a full-time/ tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art, specializing in the areas of Ceramics/ 3-D Studio, within the Visual and Performing Arts Department.

We are seeking a colleague who is an expert in the discipline of Ceramics, as evidenced by academic achievement, professional activity in the field which includes an active exhibition record (featuring vetted institutions/galleries/ museums), and who has the vision to develop and expand the Ceramics/ 3-D side of the Studio Art program from a place of experience and excitement.

Candidates possessing a demonstrated expertise in the discipline of Ceramics (both as an academic and an artist), who are student-focused, and who approach their roles as educator and mentor through the lens that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have achieved:

1) An earned, terminal degree of M.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics from an accredited institution.
2) Evidence of teaching experience in Ceramics with a minor focus on 3-D Studio courses at the undergraduate level.
3) Evidence of an ability to teach a broad range of techniques in the field of Ceramics (beginning through advanced levels), including but not limited to: wheel-throwing, hand-building, glaze chemistry, ceramic sculpture, functional ceramics, and non-functional ceramics.
4) Evidence of an ability to teach a broad range of techniques in 3-Dimensional media, (beginning through advanced levels,) based on the curriculum and pedagogy associated with courses including but not limited to: Crafts, Sculpture and 3-D Design.
5) Evidence of a skilled, contemporary art practice based in the discipline of Ceramics, via an active, professional exhibition record (vetted institutions/galleries/ museums).
6) Evidence of the understanding and application of technology in both the Studio Art classroom and within current pedagogy in the discipline of Studio Art.

7) Evidence of an ability to supervise and maintain a ceramics facility and equipment, including operation and maintenance of both gas and electric kilns, and including but not limited to knowledge of health and safety issues and practices as required in a Ceramics/ 3-D Studio.
8) Evidence of an interdisciplinary/ current approach to the field of Ceramics.

9) Evidence of knowledge of the diverse history of ceramic art, with an emphasis on contemporary issues as well as an ability to bring contemporary art theory and practice into the classroom environment.

10) Evidence of sensitivity to and awareness of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
