Founded in 1973 as Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, LMCC serves, connects, and makes space for artists and community. LMCC seeks a permanent full-time Director of Budget & Finance to join immediately. This person will oversee implementation of all activities involving the administration and management of budget operations at LMCC, including finance, general administration and human resources.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops and manages the organization’s annual budget and day-to-day financial activities
  • Directs and maintains all accounting, financial, personnel and payroll records, statements and reports, including financial reports for funders and the Board of Directors
  • Oversees Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable data entries
  • Maintains chart of accounts and ensures that revenue and expenses are allocated to appropriate cost centers
  • Processes semi-monthly payroll
  • Manages annual audit and 990 process with LMCC’s independent auditors
  • Works with Director of Development in compliance needs related to annual fundraising plan
  • Creates, implements and maintains organization-wide management systems including financial controls, operating procedures, and file management
  • Ensures that all insurance policies are current and properly maintained; Oversees all certificate of insurance and/or additional insured requests
  • Generates independent contractor agreements as needed upon receipt of scope of work details from department liaison
  • Works with all senior staff to implement organizational priorities
  • Develops and oversees the organization’s Human Resource policies and procedures and ensures compliance with the law
  • Provides oversight in all hiring and termination processes, including onboarding and offboarding
  • Maintains personnel files, including vacation time balances
  • Ensures department operates within established financial guidelines, and that budget dollars are used responsibly and introduces innovative ways to reduce costs
  • Integrates departmental activities into the organization’s strategic mission by setting goals that align with the mission and monitoring progress towards these goals
  • Assures appropriate staffing to support department
  • Promotes employee satisfaction and takes necessary action to maintain a productive and motivated staff
  • Communicates effectively and efficiently with all staff concerning relevant matters

Requirements

Qualifications: Strong candidates for this position will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Arts Administration, Nonprofit Management, or commensurate experience. Master’s Degree in related fields preferred
  • 5 years experience in nonprofit finance, accounting and administration with a minimum of 2 years of budgetary experience; minimum of 2 years of supervisor experience
  • Experience implementing, maintaining, and interpreting HR policies, practices and programs to ensure consistent application across the organization
  • Working knowledge of budget planning and forecasting, bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other agencies and the public.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workload and meet deadlines, as well as manage details while being graceful and diplomatic.
  • Proficiency using Mac OS, QuickBooks Pro, Salesforce or equivalent database and Asana or task management tool, Internet, Filemaker Pro.
