For many people of the Chinese diaspora, roots (根) are both near and opaque. What does it look like for you to practice, recover, and connect with Chinese tradition and ritual on land? To build relationships with our plant relatives? What does it mean for you to do so in the US (on Turtle Island)?
In summer 2026, join in at the regenerative farm Zumwalt Acres for an experimental, collective project of Chinese diasporic land stewardship and study. The DiGen Fellowship will bring people with Chinese ancestry together to build relationships with our plant relatives, connect with your roots (lands, traditions, ancestors, stories), and study and chart pathways for the political mobilization of Chinese diasporic communities. Their work has three primary focus areas: 1) growing, tending to, and harvesting crops, focusing on Chinese vegetables; 2) community outreach and network-building, and 3) collective study, including conducting a book club and researching and practicing Chinese lunisolar holidays.
