Diffraction Dance Festival: Illuminating the Spectrum of AAPI+ Experiences
From the creators of Resonance | Presented by Samaw Dance
Diffraction Dance Festival is looking for AAPI+ choreographers and movement artists to be part of a new dance festival happening at the end of AAPI Heritage Month. This is a platform to showcase a range of AAPI+ experiences through dance, and to connect with other artists in community.
Diffraction Dance Festival welcomes all dance styles — from hip hop, street, and jazz to contemporary and cultural forms. There’s no specific theme, but they encourage work that speaks to your identity and lived experience.
Details:
Location: The Tank (NYC)
Dates:
- Friday 5/30 @ 7pm
- Saturday 5/31 @ 3pm
- Sunday 6/1 @ 3pm
(You’ll be placed in at least one show if accepted.)
Pieces should be 7–10 mins
Recommended 10 dancers max (depends on movement + spacing)
Dancers are not required to be AAPI+ identifying but we highly recommend it.
No Marley floor — socks or shoes suggested
Minimal lighting cues due to festival format
No application fee
Choreographers receive a cut of ticket sales
Professional photos and video will be provided
Talkbacks after each show with the choreographers
Diffraction Dance Festival is excited to close out AAPI+ Month by celebrating our stories and building space together. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to hello@samawdance.com
