Position Status: Exempt, Full-Time Salaried; (40 hours/week)
Salary: $60,000-70,000 annually, eligible for full benefits and bonus

This is a hybrid position with 2 days/week in our midtown office

A4 is seeking a Development Manager to support the implementation of our fundraising strategy. The Development Manager works in close partnership with the Executive Director, cultivating a culture of giving within and beyond the organization.

We are seeking a team player with strong organizational, writing, relational and fundraising skills in this valuable role. This role reports to the Executive Director, and works closely with all members of the team, including regular communication with the Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors. This is a hybrid (New York City-based) position with 2 days per week in office and includes benefits (health, dental & vision; sick, vacation time, paid holidays, 401k matching, potential bonus).

Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) is a nonprofit service organization dedicated to ensuring greater representation, equity, and opportunities for Asian American artists and cultural organizations through resource sharing, promotion, and community building.

Since 1983, A4 has sought to unify, promote, and represent the artistic and cultural producers of one of New York City’s fastest-growing populations. We are a diverse alliance of artists, organizations, and arts supporters who believe that working together as a pan-ethnic, multidisciplinary community is essential to nurturing the development of artists and arts groups. A4 serves as a thoughtful convener of the Asian American cultural workforce around issues of race, identity, and artmaking and provides a critical voice for this community. We are the only service organization in the country dedicated to the professional development of Asian American artists in all disciplines.

About the Role:
The Development Manager will provide support on fundraising, special event coordination, and some general office administration. Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with staff, the Board of Directors, and interns/volunteers, the Development Manager is an essential part of a small and focused team to expand the fundraising potential of A4 and to ensure operation efficiency and sound fiscal management.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Development

Institutional Fundraising
Together with the Executive Director, coordinate all functions related to institutional grants, including managing the grants calendar, strategizing fundraising prospects, preparing and drafting grant applications and reports to funders, and facilitating communications with grantors as needed. Maintain electronic and physical records as well as a database of application dates and reporting requirements. Process incoming grants (e.g., deposits, acknowledgements, and correspondence).

Individual Donor Development
Work closely with the Executive Director to carry out donor development planning and activities, including developing strategies to expand donor base, mailing of annual fundraising appeals, processing gift acknowledgements/thank you letters, and updating database with contact/relationship/donation information, and all gift/grant/membership transactions (NY Charities and donation transaction accounts). Provide regular reports for internal assessment as needed.

Annual Fundraising Events
Work closely with the Executive Director and the Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors to plan and execute all year-round aspects of fundraising events, including periodic cultivation events. Help coordinate and oversee event outreach and management as it relates to the benefit committee, honorees, participating artists, sponsorships, ticket sales, silent auction, print and digital advertising, venues, vendors, and donations. Help organize committee meetings and coordinate and oversee data tracking as it relates to budgeting, ticket sales and sponsorships, silent auction, donations, advertising sales, etc. Work closely with the Programs Director on programmatic components, including volunteer management, program flow, and day-of-event on-site management.

Administration/General Programming

  • As needed, assist with upkeep of office network, hardware and software, and vendor contacts.
  • As needed, help staff A4 programs including bi-monthly Town Halls, presentations, and workshops.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to ensure A4’s current registration in all required funding and compliance databases including, but not limited to: Passport, NY State Charities bureau, SFS, SAM, Benevity, Front Door, etc.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ prior fundraising work experience, preferably in a non-profit environment with grant writing and/or event planning experience
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work efficiently
  • Knowledge of Google and MS Office Suite, Canva, general event management software like Eventbrite or Partiful
  • Ability to work well in a small team environment
  • Knowledge of database systems required (familiarity with Neon a plus)
  • Graphic design skills a plus
  • Strong demonstrated interest in the arts, the Asian American community, and/or the goals of the organization
