Creative Space Grant

The A.R.T./New York Creative Space Grant, supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is designed to provide theatre companies with studio space to help them meet their creative needs. This is an in-kind grant that provides A.R.T./New York members with credit to be used on studio space at A.R.T./New York’s Spaces@520 in Midtown Manhattan and the LuEsther T. Mertz South Oxford Space in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Starting April 8, for the Spring 2021 Session, all A.R.T./New York Members may apply for the Creative Space Grant on a rolling basis. Funding will be allocated via a random lotto system every two weeks. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until June 21, 2021.

Grant recipients may use this funding to rent studios at Spaces@520 or South Oxford Space, for any purposes under state and city reopening criteria and within the A.R.T./New York safety guidelines. There are no restrictions on the use of the grant except that it cannot be used for any rentals that would include an indoor audience onsite. Rental space is based on availability; we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate requested dates and times.

Awarded credit must be used by June 30, 2021. Applicants may apply for a grant of up to $2000 per application. They may apply again during the grant period, but the total in-kind grant award to any one applicant may not exceed $4000 over the course of the grant cycle. Please refer to the rental rates for our studios when calculating the amount of credit you would like to request.

• June 30, 2021: Final day of the grant period - all grant credit must be used by this date.

Requirements

• Applicants must be an A.R.T./New York member in good standing. Business Affiliates of A.R.T./New York are ineligible.
• If the applicant received the Creative Space Grant for FY20 Cycle 2 (Spring 2020), that award must be used in full prior to application.
• Bookings may be made prior to the application and/or notification of this grant, but the actual use of the space must be during the grant period of April 8 - June 30, 2021.
• Grant may be used for any purposes related to a theatre’s needs, including meetings, classes, rehearsals, filming, etc and for storage space used during the rental period. Our spaces may not be used for performances indoors with an audience.
• All activities in the studios must comply with A.R.T./New York’s rental guidelines, including the additional COVID-19 prevention safety guidelines and all organizations using our studios must affirm with the state’s NY Forward website that they will comply with the state guidelines for reopening.
