The Costume Shop Manager plans, manages, supervises and maintains quality control over the operation of the costume shop, overseeing the costume production process from designer’s rendering/costume plot to performance, working in close collaboration with designers and choreographers.

Responsibilities:

Supervise all costume shop staff with a strong focus on fostering continued growth and professional development in all areas including (but not limited to) patterning, draping, fitting, and principles, practices and techniques of costume construction methods.
Supervise the construction, alteration, repair, purchase, cleaning/maintenance and storage of costumes, wigs and theatrical make-up.
Ensure the maintenance of the costume shop inventory, with an emphasis on preventative maintenance allowing for BalletMet repertoire to be remounted and rented in the long term.
Have a superior knowledge of dance costuming, and keep up with current methods, practices, and techniques. Design experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Conduct dancer fittings for all productions and other events.
Work in conjunction with the Production Manager and/or General Manager to create and administer the costume shop budget, purchases, hiring and work schedules, making best efforts to execute all work within budget and on schedule.
Collaborate with other BalletMet departments, as instructed by the Production Manager and/or General Manager, to ensure that wardrobe needs are met for all BalletMet programs.
Ensure that all dancer shoe needs are met including the tracking of all shoe purchases, maintenance of shoe inventory, ordering, and distribution of shoes for all company and BalletMet 2 dancers.
Create, distribute, and implement all dancer shoe contracts.
Other duties as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality.
Take part in maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe work environment.
Contribute to the overall success of BalletMet by maintaining productive and professional relationship with staff, company members, guest artists and the public and approach duties with a positive attitude.
