The Lucille Lortel Theatre’s mission is to foster both new and established artists, increase awareness and appreciation of Off-Broadway, and uphold fair and equitable business and artistic practices in service of creating a larger, more diverse community of theatre makers and audiences.

The Lucille Lortel Theatre is seeking a Co-Artistic Director to provide artistic vision, strategic direction, and passion for being a part of creating a new theater company in NYC. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, creative, and collaborative leader who is looking for an artistic home and willing to create something from the ground up.

The Co-Artistic Director’s primary responsibilities will be conceiving, developing, and implementing the artistic vision with regard to plays in both Spanish and English and collaborating closely with the other Co-Artistic Director who is responsible for conceiving, developing, and implementing the artistic vision with regard to musicals. Subsequently, we are looking for someone with deep ties to both established and up and coming playwrights.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, support and/or management of the following areas: season selection, pre-production planning and hiring, casting, active production oversight, and oversight of artistic educational programming, readings of new works, workshops, and other special projects. This position includes direct contact with all artists and artistic and production personnel.

The position offers a robust benefits package including health insurance, optional dental and vision insurance, and a generous retirement plan. The organization hopes to make its decision by December 15, 2022. The Co-Artistic Director position can start as early as January 2, 2023.

This position requires local residence, and combines both remote and onsite work. Applicants can have responsibilities to other organizations or freelance projects.

Primary qualifications: fluency in Spanish and English, collaborative work ethic, team builder, proven record of artistic accomplishment, and strong communication skills.

Lucille Lortel Theatre is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. Research shows that people from historically marginalized communities tend to only apply if they meet every requirement of a job listing. Even if you feel you do not meet every requirement, we strongly encourage applicants from historically marginalized communities to apply. Lucille Lortel Theatre recognizes that historic institutional practices have led to an exclusionary and harmful environment for members of these communities, and is actively working to become a more diverse, anti-racist, inclusive organization. We acknowledge and welcome the complexity of the work ahead.
