PRIORITY DEADLINE: 5/22

LOOKING FOR NYC BASED ACTORS, STAGE MANAGER, FIGHT COORDINATING, AND STUDENT DIRECTOR ASAP

About the Play:
“black daisies, white daisies” is a play about the dichotomy of identities and consciousness in an Asian body being separated into two characters––signified by an Asian name and an English name. It is a living room play that escalates into raucous fights that destroy everything in their surroundings and their outfits. With a “big bang” towards the end of their fight, the struggles with queerness, identity, and shame are demolished. In the aftermath of their fights, they coexist in the seemingly chaos. (Run time: approximately 40 minutes)

This is a new play as a part of The Tank Pridefest 2023 in midtown Manhattan. The performance date is Saturday 6/24. Actors, Stage Manager, and Assistant Director should be available in person on that date, as well as from 6/10 to 6/24 for in person rehearsals. (Prior to that, there will be several Zoom rehearsals and read-through.)

Requirements

We are currently looking for:

ACTORS: 2 female/non-binary East Asian or Southeast Asian actors. Early 20s - Late 20s. (Must be comfortable with physical fights, no prior experience needed.)

STAGE MANAGER: You should be confident to run a minimum of 4 hours of tech and the show in a black box theater. Prior experience or knowledge of lighting design or audio/visual equipment operation is a plus but not required.

FIGHT COORDINATOR: prior experience and knowledge in at least one form of martial art would be welcome. Knowledge in Karate or BJJ is a plus. You will help with a five minutes-fish sequence that satirizes the “girl fight” trope, drift from hair-pulling to dance, from Tai Chi to karate. Preference is given to anyone from the New York Metro Area, but we welcome applicants from anywhere around the country and the world.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: Preference is given to student directors currently pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree. You will be working closely with the writer/director. Once you submit the Google Form, she’ll schedule a time with you to talk more about the ideas, visions, and other details of the show.

We also welcome submissions from anyone interested in graphic, costume, lighting, or sound design. This is a non-equity opportunity. Box office profits will be split among actors and the creative team after the show.

ACTORS, STAGE MANAGER, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR MUST BE BASED IN NEW YORK METRO AREA. We welcome submissions for Fight Coordinator and Designers from around the world.
