SYNOPSIS
Frank, a 17 years-old aspiring jazz musician, moved to New York City with his father from Shanghai in pursuit of a better future. Despite his father’s strong dissuasion, Frank immerses himself in the jazz scene, and continues to pursue his musical career. As the life grows more and more difficult on him and his father, Frank and his father realize just what it takes to succeed in America and realize their dreams.
Requirements
CHARACTERS
BA (MICHAEL) LIU: M, 40s-60s. Baritone (A2 – G4). Chinese/East Asian. Frank’s father. Originally a banker, he loses his job due to his company’s downsizing and finds work at Dumpling Shop. Stubborn, but it means well. Family is everything for him.
MICHELLE: F,17. Mezzo-Soprano (A3 – D5). Asian American. Frank’s classmate, an ambitious and overworked teenager whose escape is singing jazz. Wants to get accepted into Harvard to make her parents proud.
