Seeking actors for: “Spit Out Your Bones,” an NYU thesis short film. A Filipino-American college baseball pitcher navigates the pressures he faces from his family and team during the days leading up to and including the championship. His dad’s health, his team’s dependence, and his college’s championship drought all weigh heavily on him as he must also hide an injury to his elbow. I am looking to cast Filipino/Filipino-American characters in the lead roles:
Oscar “Oz” Meralco (21) Filipino-presenting. Male. There is clearly a lot going on for Oz, but somehow he always manages to keep himself bottled up. Despite his talent, he sees baseball as an obligation rather than a blessing. All he really wishes for is to escape the noise. Baseball experience is a plus but not required.
Ismael Meralco (40s-50s) Filipino-presenting. Male. Pragmatism defines Ismael. He wants the best for Oz but doesn’t always take Oz’s wishes into consideration. Regardless, he sacrifices his time and health to help Oz practice.
Elle Meralco (40s-50s) Filipino-presenting. Female. Must be able to speak some Tagalog. Elle is the emotional glue keeping the family together. She wants the best for Oz, even if that means giving up her food so that he can eat some more. She is the only one who thinks it’s OK if he quits baseball.
Requirements
Must be available to film in the NY/NJ metro area. Must be available from Feb 21-28, 2025. Pro-bono, micro-budget under the SAG agreement. Credit, meals and a copy of the film provided upon completion.Application Instructions
Please contact Joy at the email listed. She will provide further instructions regarding a self-tape for whichever character you are auditioning for.
