Jess Li, an MBA/MFA dual degree student at NYU writing and directing an NYU Tisch 10-minute short film, will be filming in New Jersey and NYC in mid-November 2024 (likely between November 14-21). They are looking to cast actors for the film. Here is the casting breakdown with role descriptions:
Casting “Peace Corps,” a 10-minute NYU student film. Logline: About a woman who, after leaving the Peace Corps early due to mental health issues, returns to her suburban hometown and learns how to readjust.
AVA: Late 20s, Asian American woman. Ava is free-spirited, a little impulsive, and lost in life. She left the Peace Corps early due to mental health issues and has returned to her hometown. She’s smart, funny, and is just trying to figure life out, even if that means making a dumb decision or two.
HELEN: Late 20s, Asian American woman. Helen is very smart, put-together, and can be on the blunt side. She seems to have her life figured out, but has an undercurrent of unhappiness. She’s Ava’s best friend.
JING: Late 50s-early 60s, Chinese woman. Jing is straightforward, harsh, but ultimately loving (she’s definitely a proponent of tough love). She’s Ava’s mother. Must be able to speak Mandarin Chinese natively/fluently.
MR. HARRISON: Early 40s, Caucasian man. Mr. Harrison is a bit dorky, a little flirty, and a bit messy. He seems like a good guy with a bit of a problematic side underneath. He is Ava’s old high school teacher who she goes on a date with.
