OPEN CALL | COME PLAY BALL
What the Ball are you doing?
A ball rises, falls, rolls away, comes back, gets caught, gets missed. It can be a game, a rule, a pressure point, a delay, a score, a system, a ritual, a joke, a failure, a choreography, a way of wasting time, or a way time wastes back. This round of ELSEHERE Open Call invites artists to respond to the ball not only as object, but as structure, absurdity, repetition, control, drift, mischief, instability, and play. They are looking for works that can take this prompt somewhere alive, specific, and formally convincing.
You might enter through:
- play and uselessness
- rules and competition
- repetition and boredom
- control and loss of control
- ritual and choreography
- drift, failure, delay, or missed timing
- humor, absurdity, and pressure
- the body in relation to objects, systems, and motion
They welcome submissions across:
- performance
- dance
- moving image
- photography
- installation
- sound
- text
- interdisciplinary and experimental forms
This open call is for artists who can think sharply without losing play, and who can play seriously without losing thought.
- You do not need a literal ball.
- You do not need a final answer.
- You do not need to solve the prompt.
- You only need to take it somewhere that feels unmistakably yours.
