Call for Art Competition: International Art Competition. Community Art Channel
Theme:
Expressions of Gender Equity and Feminism
Description:
At the Community Art Channel, they believe in building an equitable and inclusive world, which means facing several challenges. The changing nature of gender structures suggests that it’s more useful to understand the situation of boys and girls, women and men, in social terms rather than biological. Gender is about the social and cultural expectations and conditions of being a boy/girl, women/men in a specific society at a specific point of time.
The gender structures of society provide women and men with different access to and control over resources. Those differences generate gender inequalities, most of them in disadvantage of women. Some of the social disadvantages that affect women, depending on their personal environment, are domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, lack of access to education, forced marriage, discrimination in access to employment opportunities, etc. Men are also affected by gender structures. Depending on their personal environment, men may also be affected by gender disadvantages such as forced recruitment in war and conflicts, gang violence, forced displacement, etc.
The theme of this call for artistic expression is the creation of a work of art that expresses the concept of the social problems related to gender that humanity must address at the present time.
