Fernland Studios is an experimental ecological arts studio offering rest, rejuvenation, and reciprocity. We provide Black, Indigenous, and all people of color artist residencies, ecological arts funding, and writing retreats at no cost to them and with additional funding to support their practice. Applications are open until April 8, 2024, at 11:59 pm PT.

Artist Residencies provide space, time, and financial support for artists to explore creative ecological justice—or the use of art to heal our spirits, ecologies, and communities—through their proposed medium remotely from June 20 to August 1:

Ecological Arts Funding is a small grant for cultural producers to propose programs aligning with our mission, vision, and values:

Our Writing Retreat is in-person from July 22-27 at Salishan Coastal Lodge in Gleneden Beach, Oregon, providing people space, time, and financial support to dream and write at the intersections of art and ecology:

Fernland Studios founder and director Zoë Gamell Brown is hosting an information session on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 10-11 am PT to discuss logistics and answer questions about their summer programming. RSVP:

Visit for more information, and contact us if you have any questions.

Selection is based on the proposed work’s connection to Fernland Studios’ mission, vision, and values. Participants must be 18+, and all participants working and living across the United States/Turtle Island in 2024 are eligible, while prioritizing participants in the Pacific Northwest.
