On October 23, 2021 from 10:00am - 3:00pm PST Act to Change, Hate Is A Virus, and Stop AAPI Hate are partnering to hold a virtual, nationwide AAPI (Asian American & Pacific Islander) Youth Conference entitled The Changemakers Summit 2021.
Designed to support, connect, and develop the next generation of AAPI youth activists, the program for this conference will be grounded in four pillars: Inform, Educate, Empower, and Celebrate.
The target audience is AAPI youth ranging from middle school to college students in addition to adult advocates (parents, educators, organizers, etc.). We plan to host a variety of workshops, speaker panels, creative spaces, and community discussions that attendees can choose to partake in, across three different tracks:
AAPI in Social Justice
AAPI in Education
AAPI in Innovations
Requirements
To center emerging voices, a Youth Equity Council will be formed to help Hate Is A Virus, Act to Change and Stop AAPI Hate ensure that youth and students are the heart of this event. This Equity Council is to be facilitated by Christine Juang, Director of Education at Hate Is A Virus, Richard Leong and Nancy Tien, Education Committee Leads at Act to Change, and composed of various AAPI youth/student groups from high school and college. The Youth Equity Council will meet two to three times to:
Establish new relationships/norms of working together
Evaluate submitted workshop proposals and provide recommendations on which to accept and implement
Support recruitment and outreach for the conference
Build a foundation for future engagement with Hate Is A Virus, Act to Change, and Stop AAPI Hate
