Organizational Summary:
Playwrights Horizons is an off-Broadway writer’s theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.

Salary: $57,500

Position Summary:
The Accounting Associate will provide accurate, timely, and accessible financial information that will help the Business Office make well-informed financial decisions and optimize resources to achieve the organization’s mission. This position will be responsible for key accounting processes including, but not limited to accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), expense report processing, corporate credit card management, journal entries, monthly & year-end closing and Audit preparation.

Responsibilities:
- Process all accounts payable activity ensuring transactions are processed timely and accurately; initiating all payments both electronically and with checks
- Enter accounts payable entries into accounting software, and prepares daily and weekly accounts receivable, bank deposits, and reconciliations
- Maintain accurate vendor records including adding, updating, purging vendor records, and ensures all legal documentation has been received
- Prepare and distribute 1099s and filings with the IRS
- Manage corporate credit cards and process expense reports via Concur
- Assist in the development of new processes and procedures to streamline accounting functions across the organization
- Serve as the first point of contact for financial and payable inquiries from the staff, check and organize the incoming mail for the finance team
- Organize and maintain a tracker for uncashed checks on a monthly basis
- Process payments via online banking such as ACH and bill payment
- Conduct reconciliations of the Corporate Business accounts, credit card accounts, and petty Cash; reconcile accounts payable recurring vouchers and update the tracker
- Review invoices and check requests to ensure accurate coding, amounts, and approvals.
- Prepare and review accounts receivable aging report, accounts payable aging report, and and hoc reports
- Manage monthly postage allocation
- Assist with box office settlements as needed
- Assist controller with annual audit preparation
- Stay abreast of federal, state, and local legal requirements, and advise finance team of necessary actions

Requirements

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degrees in accounting, finance, or business, or have related experience
- One to two years of accounting experience, preferred within an arts organization or nonprofit environment
- Understanding of basic accounting principles required
- Experience with Financial Edge accounting software (FE NXT) is a plus
- Proficient in Excel and familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
- Excellent organization and analytical skills, strong communication tactics
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
- Ability to meet deadlines and to work in a dynamic and changing environment
- Must be a team player and able to manage vendors and key stakeholders across the organization
