Art Omi: Artists invites artists, critics, and curators from around the world - representing a wide diversity of artistic styles and practices - to gather in rural New York to experiment, collaborate, and share ideas. Concentrated time for creative work is balanced with the stimulation of cultural exchange and critical appraisal. Art Omi: Artists Residency nurtures deep creative and professional connections in a vibrant social setting.

Each session, two dozen international artists are invited to the program, along with two critics/curators who participate as Critic Emeritus and Critic/Curator-in-Residence. These two individuals play a pivotal role throughout the duration of the residency session as they facilitate discussions, help connect the artists with art world professionals through the Visitors Program, and conduct individual studio visits with the Artists-in-Residence. The Visitors Program enables residents to have conversations with visiting art critics, curators, gallerists and prominent artists. Direct engagement with the New York City art world is unmatched by similar residency programs. The residency culminates in the Open Studios event, offering the public a glimpse of what artists have created during their time at Art Omi.

Art Omi: Artists welcomes artists from all over the world who have been professionally active for at least the past five years. Disciplines include visual arts, sound art, performance, and social practice. Having studied art is not a requirement: we accept applications from self-taught professional artists.

Accommodations & Facilities
Art Omi is located in the countryside two and a half hours north of New York City in the historic Hudson River Valley. Named for a neighboring village, Art Omi is a fifteen minute drive to the small town of Ghent, and to Hudson, while the city of Albany is 40 minutes away. NYC is a two hour train ride from Hudson. Note, there is no public transportation available from the residency campus.

The facilities, situated on three hundred acres of open land, include a large two-story barn with indoor studios; contemporary residence buildings designed with a vernacular reference to local barns, surrounded by abundant perennial beds, expansive lawns dotted with fruit trees, adjacent to the Sculpture & Architecture Park.

A Federal Period farmhouse serves as a gathering center, providing a full kitchen, communal areas and library; while the front porch overlooks rolling hills and the majestic outline of the Catskill Range. A swimming pool, bicycles, and WiFi access are available on the premises. Art Omi provides all meals.

Columbia County, and the nearby Berkshire Mountains, are popular destinations because of their historical, natural and cultural riches. From bird sanctuaries to modern dance, presidential mansions to farmer’s markets, the environs offer a singular blend of rural quiet and cultural stimulation.

Work spaces include: indoor and protected outdoor studio spaces, a kiln, basic hand tools, and some equipment. The entire center is WiFi equipped. In addition, we provide a shared computer with internet access and a couple of black & white printers. Professional color photography labs are located in nearby Ghent. Bikes are available for residents to explore the surrounding area.
