Zhaojun - A Woman of Peace

My new chamber opera Zhaojun - A Woman of Peace will be premiered in April, 2013 by the Center for Contemporary Opera at Manhattan’s Symphony Space at the Peter Sharp Theater.

Written in English, for mezzo-soprano, baritone and chamber ensemble, the opera is inspired by stories of the life of Wang Zhaojun, one of the four beauties of ancient China, who created peace between China and Mongolia. The opera incorporates elements from the Chinese theater of the Yuan dynasty of Kubilai Khan, as well as poetry from ancient China.
