Women Artists, Curators, Activists: A Conversation

Thursday, May 21, 2026
5:30 – 6:30AM

This event is free and open to the public.

Mishkin Gallery at Baruch College will present Women Artists, Curators & Activists: A Conversation on Thursday, May 21, bringing together bringing together artists, curators, scholars, and activists to ask a direct question: why are so many women artists recognized only after decades of being overlooked?

The evening features panelists Susan Bee, Susan Grabel, Zhen Guo, Lori Horowitz, and Christina Schlesinger, moderated by Gail Levin, Distinguished Professor at Baruch College and CUNY, with introductory remarks by Maika Pollack, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Mishkin Gallery.

Presented alongside Changing Cultures: Zhen Guo, A Retrospective (on view through June 12, 2026), the panel will explore how women artists balance personal and political expression, what gets lost when artists are written out of history, and how institutions, curators, critics, and artists themselves shape cultural memory over time. The conversation will examine the relationship between feminism, visibility, artistic labor, and historical recognition across generations and cultures.
