4 – 6PM
Join for this free event! A conversation with Guadalupe Maravilla, Shaun Leonardo, Jamel Mims, and WHOOP DEE DOO, with opening words from Tiffiney Davis, moderated by Caits Meissner
Join for an afternoon of conversation about community-engaged art practices and their influence on contemporary art and the cultural landscape. Learn from our esteemed panelists about how they work to challenge political and socioeconomic boundaries by situating their practices to invite thoughtful participation and collaboration, as well as how artists work within and beyond institutional contexts.
WHOOP DEE DOO partners with museums, galleries, arts organizations, festivals, schools and universities, and thoughtfully constructs its programming to be uniquely cross-generational, inclusive, and specific to the needs of our partner organizations and each of our collaborators. Every production comes together in a flexible and participatory process that works to achieve each participants’ creative goals.
Since 2006, WHOOP DEE DOO has created over 50 large-scale commissioned projects for organizations including SFMOMA, The Smart Museum (Chicago), Loyal (Sweden), POP Montreal, The Kemper Museum (Kansas City), The St. Louis Museum of Art, The Contemporary (Baltimore), Utah MOCA, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art (Philadelphia), Knockdown Center (Queens, NY), and Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (San Francisco), among others.
