“One of the few contemporary dance makers who have created an instantly recognizable style… fresh and unpredictable, jarring and just right,” proclaims The New York Times about Stephen Petronio. His Underland is a vividly surging work, inspired by the dark, bittersweet songs of Australian balladeer Nick Cave. Dancers hurl through space with razor sharp precision, fiercely energized one moment, sensually lyrical the next. Underland unravels in a series of solos, duets, and ensemble passages that build a powerfully fractured, enigmatic world filled with hope and despair. Completing the vision is a triptych of projected imagery by Ken Tabachnick and Mike Daly, with costumes by Tara Subkoff/Imitation of Christ.
