Remember Ida: A 3rd Anniversary Podcast Listening Session

Saturday, September 28, 2024
3 – 6PM

“Remember Ida” marks the third anniversary of Hurricane Ida, which hit New York City in September 2021, and caused severe inland flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and basement-level dwellings.

The program will include a listening session, using an episode from the third season of the Queens Memory Podcast called “Invisible Homeless,” about a family in Flushing, Queens who drowned in their basement home and the Chinese community that rallied to help identify the deceased. We will play select clips and share behind-the-scenes moments on the making of this episode.

After the listening session, the Queens Memory Project will hold a reflection circle, inviting climate justice experts, researchers, educators, and audience members to discuss what has happened since Ida, and what still needs to change to prevent future deaths and ensure public safety.

This New York Climate Week 2024 event will take place on Governors Island. Visit https://www.govisland.com/plan-your-visit for travel information.

Co-Presented by the New York Climate Exchange.
