Reflections on 9/11: South Asian Resilience Over the Past 20 Years

Thursday, October 28, 2021
3:30 – 5PM

In the days, weeks, and months following the tragedy of 9/11, numerous members of the South Asian community were racially-profiled and targeted in a series of hate crimes, acts of vandalism, and other everyday microaggressions. The repercussions of these attacks on the community’s sense of safety and identity in the U.S. continue into the present day, through the actions of institutions and depictions throughout our society and culture. In the space of addressing anti-Asian hate, AARP recognizes that many of our friends and neighbors, their families, and communities continue to be impacted, even two decades later. But, more importantly, we wish to acknowledge the resilience and strength of these communities, how they persevered, and how we may learn from their experiences to guide us in our current time.

Please join us for this event, featuring activists and community leaders, as we spend time reflecting on the twenty years since 9/11 and sharing lessons and hope for the future.
