Ping Yin: Force of Nature
5 – 7PM
Please join us for the opening reception of Force of Nature, a solo exhibition by Ping Yin, on Friday, September 9, 5:00-7:00PM at Gallery 456.
EXHIBITION STATEMENT
The theme of struggle, both emotionally and physically, as a basic mode of human existence within one’s society, has inspired Ping Yin’s recent series of paintings. To live is to fight to live. Yin imagines that we come into this world as metaphysical warriors: only through fighting for ourselves and engaging in the struggle do we progress. Ping Yin’s expressive paintings, layered with heavy brushstrokes of saturated color, reflect the fierce plays of power and passion. Ping Yin’s painting language is expressionist. He renders his figures with strong, rough brushstrokes, giving emphasis to the ugliness found in a face in the throes of pain and struggle, permeating with a fanaticism at once cold and burning. Yin’s composition draws the viewer up close to witness an uneasy world defined by the brutal nature of survival, and the intensity of being alive and great courage that accompany it.
