Pasifika Series: Summer 2024 concludes with a second ʻOri Tahiti workshop taught by returning guest, Ranitea Laughlin!

This 2-hour, open-level workshop will explore ʻAparima, a style of ʻOri Tahiti characterized by graceful movements set to a melody or lyric song. Participants will move through a warm-up and drills for steps including tāmau taere, ʻami, and tuaneʻe. Class will end by working on a short choreography. Pareu (sarong) welcome.

Ranitea Laughlin is a sought-after ʻOri Tahiti performer and teacher. Career highlights include winning Hura Tapairu in 2018, 2019, and 2022 and being chosen to represent Manohiva at Heiva I Tahiti in 2023. Her approach to dance and choreography considers ‘Ori Tahiti a form of free expression that is deeply grounded in the fundamentals and essence of this traditional dance.
