MOCA PERFORMS – Little Red Riding Hood, A Chinese Opera
3PM
In partnership with Carnegie Hall’s United in Sound: America at 250, MOCA is excited to present a series of music programs featuring composers, musicians, and performers. Through this series, artists use music as a storytelling medium to share their personal journeys, creative inspirations, and cultural influences.
Continuing more than a century of Chinese opera’s legacy in the United States, this program reimagines a classic tale through the lens of Chinese opera — inviting older generations to reminisce and younger Asian Americans to discover the beauty of this timeless art form. Presented in a nontraditional space, the performance pays homage to Chinese opera’s arrival in America during the mid-19th century. Through this world-renowned tale, audiences will experience acrobatics, martial arts, and elaborate costumes in a celebration of the nation’s rich cultural diversity and this enduring artistic tradition. This program is in partnership with Chinese Theater Works.
This event forms part of Carnegie Hall’s United in Sound: America at 250 festival.
