Lxl Residency: “불가사의를 구하시오” by Jueun Kang

불가사의를 구하시오 is an ongoing performance research series by Korean performer and multidisciplinary artist, Jueun Kang. The current iteration is developed from Kang’s inaugural inner-child work, “SeaFoam,” exploring the longing of an imperfect adult-child to retreat into their own cave and escape the burdens of adulthood. Drawing inspiration from the structure and rhythm of Korean traditional theater (Changmugeuk), this multidisciplinary performance explores a korean folktale reading “for adults”. It is rooted from Kang’s longing for a reintegration of her fragmented identities.

Kang shares a space that pushes the boundaries of linguistic communication and challenges the audience to engage with the presence of the narrative on a deeper level. As Kang unravels the enigma of her own existence, composed by voice and actions that have lost self-identity, the reality of space-time, and the ability to communicate through language, she hopes to move closer to a state of nirvana and find solace in the face of a chaotic world.
