Moonlit Sea Prints of Easthampton MA is presenting its newest exhibition, Lovers and Fighters, featuring a diverse collection of prints, including depictions of samurai, bijin-ga (portraits of beautiful women), and kuchi-e (illustrations for novels and magazines). These works capture the timeless narratives of romance and valor, providing an experience into the intricate artistry and storytelling of Japanese woodblock prints.

June 1, 2024 through August 31, 2024. Show opening on June 1 from 4pm-7pm during Easthampton ArtWalk; open the remainder of the month by appointment.

“Lovers and Fighters” is an exhibit that delves into the rich tapestry of Japanese woodblock prints, spanning the ukiyo-e and shin-hanga periods. This exhibition presents a captivating array of samurai prints (musha-e), bijin-ga (beautiful women prints), and kuchi-e (illustrations for novels and magazines), highlighting the duality of passion and conflict. The show moves between three focuses: The Spirit of the Samurai, Enchanting Lovers, and the Artistic Intersection of Kuchi-e.

The show includes pieces by Ogata Gekko, Kaburaki Kiyokata, Kazon Suzuki, Takeuchi Keishu, Shinsui Ito, Hiroshi Yoshida, Hirano Hakuho, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi.
