Light of the Setting Sun - NYC Theatrical Release
Join them for the upcoming theatrical release of Light of the Setting Sun (迴光返照), a personal feature documentary directed by Vicky Du, at DCTV’s Firehouse Cinema in Chinatown from April 18–24.
In her deeply personal and moving directorial debut, filmmaker Vicky Du unravels her family’s war-torn history across three generations and three countries—China, Taiwan, and the United States. Light of the Setting Sun is a poetic exploration of the unspoken, revealing how inherited trauma, insecurity, and the echoes of war shape both identity and legacy. Through archival footage, personal reflections, and intimate interviews, Du crafts a candid and compassionate meditation on survival and the lasting impact of her family’s escape from the 1949 Chinese Communist Revolution.
The film premiered at Full Frame and has played at CAAMFest, EIDF, IDFA, and the San Diego Asian Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize. The film has also received generous support from Sundance and PBS.
DCTV offers discounted group sales for 10 people or more.
