On Sept 22nd and 23rd, Yangtze Repertory Theatre will present “LADY WHITE SNAKE and Others: Variations in a Foreign Land #12” at Chinese Community Center, featuring three new dance works by Asian choreographers David ChianHui Shen (Taiwan), Ae-Soon Kim and Young-Sil Kim (Japan). For the production, the Kim sisters who grew up in Korea, have created five new works About Us, …No Evils, Autumn Leaf, Shade and On My Feet. David Shen’s Lady White Snake is based on one of the most beloved love stories in Asian culture. In the Buddhist tradition, it is believed that through spiritual and physical exercises, a human can attain immortality and become a god. In the story however, Lady White Snake who originally belongs to the realm of the spirit, relinquishes her immortality to pursue the love of a mortal man, rendering her humanlike. By having a child with a human, she violates the law separating the human and the divine. As her punishment, she is imprisoned in a pagoda for all eternity. Lighting the works is Joyce Liao.
Beside the three choreographers, artists appearing will include: April Aubert, Asami Tomida Carl Ka-Ho Li, Sarah Lin Ying, Ashley Liang, Mike J McNulty, Jennifer Radcliffe, Mark Taylor, Stephanie Willing and Shelly Qianni Wu.
