IRO IRO by Teruyo Fujiyama's

December 1 – December 30, 2022
Kobe-born Japanese SAORI weaver Teruyo Fujiyama’s third show in New York. Her mother, an art teacher, discovered her extraordinary artistic talent at an early age, and at the age of 9, Teruyo experienced hand-weaving on a SAORI loom for the first time. After seeing Teruyo immersed in touching colorful yarns, her mother has been taking her to the SAORI studio every week for more than 30 years. Since then, Teruyo produced countless woven artworks in the inclusive classroom where she enjoys weaving together with other students. A well-known Japanese painter admired her and she has also won numerous awards as an artist with Down syndrome. As one of the pioneers of outsider artists in Japan, her work has been exhibited through VSA Arts International, which has influenced many people with disabilities and their families. Loop of the Loom has supported her work since 2015.
