Hands at Work

May 26 – June 26, 2026
3 – 4:30PM

Opening reception: May 26, 1:30 pm

Hands at Work brings together textile artworks by a group of immigrant women at the Chinese-American Planning Council senior center in Sunset Park. Many of the featured artists worked in garment factories after migrating from Guangdong and Fujian provinces to the United States, one of the most common jobs for women of their generation.

Curated by Lin Qiqing, a textile artist who has led workshops at the center, the exhibition features a variety of weavings, embroidery, patchwork and mix-media works. Using textile skills they once relied on for survival, participants now created these pieces for self-expression and joy.

As part of the opening, a free embroidery workshop will take place following the artists’ presentation. It’s open to the public with limited capacity and all materials will be provided. Please sign up.
