[Long Island City, Jan 2, 2026] — Yang Collective is pleased to present Handle with Ease, a curated dialogue between the works of Davina Hsu and Shuyao Huang. The exhibition explores a state of mastery in which repetition no longer signals labor, but quiet control. Through fluent, practiced hand movements, Davina Hsu’s rhythmic needle felting and Shuyao Huang’s repeated lines gently construct depth and space. Here, form emerges through layered gestures shaped by sustained attention and commitment over time.

The exhibition draws inspiration from the Chinese idiom 游刃有餘 (yóu rèn yǒu yú), which evokes the image of handling a butcher’s cleaver with effortless precision. It describes a level of skill so refined that one can navigate complexity with calm assurance. In this state, confidence is expressed through consistency and control. As we enter 2026, the exhibition is offered as a quiet wish for greater ease and fluency in navigating the art of living.

Davina Hsu is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist and energy intuitive. Hsu’s work examines the intersections of energy, materiality, occult mysticism, healing, and socio-emotional dynamics. Working primarily with needle felting, she transforms raw wool into structured forms through a disciplined process of repetition. Countless needle movements gradually bind fibers into a cohesive density, allowing form to emerge through control rather than force. Her sensitivity to color, space, and rhythm enables a measured engagement with material, resulting in sculptures that feel both mesmeric and quietly exuberant. Shaped by patience and restraint, her works carry a presence that is grounded yet expansive, inviting attentive, prolonged viewing. She holds a B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design (New York, 2009) and an M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts (New York, 2023).

Shuyao Huang is a visual artist whose painting practice centers on duality and the quiet discipline of mark-making. Through repeated lines, she transforms the canvas into a spatial field that unfolds gradually through attention and control. Huang’s practice emerges from a deep engagement with the perception of color and space, where careful observation and disciplined repetition shape the rhythm of each canvas. Marked by consistency and calm, Huang’s works invite prolonged looking, offering a composed visual environment where solidity and openness exist in harmony.

Presented as a signature program by Yang Collective, Handle with Ease brings together two distinct practices that share a profound commitment to repetition as a means of spatial construction. While their mediums differ—one working in the tactile density of wool, the other in the ethereal layering of paint—both artists arrive at a shared destination where form, material, and gesture meet in a state of absolute ease.

This exhibition invites the audience to look beyond the final object and witness the “flow state” of the maker. It is a celebration of the seasoned hand—the moment when the artist and the tool become one, navigating the creative process with measured grace and fluid mastery.
