he eye speaks without words—a quiet witness to what you often try to ignore. For Yuriyo, this silent observation became her voice. After losing her mother during her teenage years, she struggled to express her grief and anger through language or emotion. Art became her outlet—a way to process and communicate what she could not say. Her work reflects on the fragility of life, the inevitability of death, and the repeating cycle of war and violence. In 2019, a visit to Auschwitz left a lasting impact on her, bringing a deep sense of sorrow and helplessness that continues to influence her artistic practice. Entirely self-taught, Yuriyo creates through intuition and impulse, using painting and performance to access and express buried emotions. Drawing from her experience as a former street dancer, she incorporates body painting and movement into her live work, merging physicality with visual art. Her practice is raw, honest, and deeply personal. Yuriyo’s first solo exhibition marks a milestone in her journey, presented at Gallery 60 NYC—a contemporary art space in the heart of New York City committed to supporting powerful voices from around the world.
