Dinner & Book Talk with Artist Ria Sim, Author of "Dear New York, I Love You"
6 – 9PM
Join Potluck Asian America for an evening with illustrator Ria Sim (@coffeecakescafe), who will discuss her art book, Dear New York, I Love You: An Artist’s Celebration of the City, which celebrates New York’s colorful streets, classic haunts, and simple pleasures.
Ria sees the best in the city. She’s moved by the simplicity of the buildings against the sky, a single flower on a not-so-clean sidewalk, and the ever-rotating, meticulously curated decorations adorning a brownstone in the West Village. She draws everything from strangers’ doorsteps and snow-covered yellow cabs, as well as historic landmarks like the Stonewall Inn to newer, beloved institutions such as Spongies Cafe in Chinatown.
In addition to the discussion, admission includes a hardcover copy of her book Dear New York, I Love You: An Artist’s Celebration of the City that Ria can sign, as well as a buffet dinner featuring the famously delicious, light, and airy Hong Kong-style paper-wrapped spongecakes in a wide array of original and special flavors from one of the inspirations behind her drawings: Spongies Cafe!
