CTRL+ALT: A Culture Lab On Imagined Futures

November 12 – November 13, 2016
11 – 9PM

WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN TO THIS PLACE?

This question strikes a chord, whether it is pointed at our world, our country, our neighborhoods or ourselves. With this in mind, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center is pleased to present CTRL+ALT: A Culture Lab on Imagined Futures. CTRL+ALT is creative convening of artworks, performances and dialogues with artists and scholars who insist that knowing what the future holds is not a question of speculation, but instead agency. Whether their concepts of the future are based on outer space or inner space, a distant era or the next brief moment, the tellers of these stories commonly claim them as their own. Representing a range of backgrounds and identities, they show that even those who have long been pushed to the margins are the center of someone’s universe. CTRL+ALT is the sequel to May 2016’s CrossLines: A Culture Lab on Intersectionality, which occurred in Washington, D.C. to revisit the concept of American history through the lens of intersectional identities.
