Cisne Negro Dance Company

August 15 – August 20, 2011
7:30PM
Founded by Artistic Director Hulda Bittencourt in 1977, Cisne Negro Dance Company stays true to its Brazilian roots while adhering to a classic modern dance style that is “admirably disciplined and wildly energetic.” (The New York Times). For its Joyce season, the first since 2005, the company will present an eclectic program that includes Flock, an exotic take on Stravinsky’s Firebird and Sabiá, a classic Cisne Negro piece that premiered in 1988 and features a divine combination of pointe shoes and contemporary movement performed to music created by Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque de Holanda, renowned Brazilian composers. As a special treat, ABT principal Marcelo Gomes appears in both Sabiá and in a solo work.
