Celebrating Representation and Inclusion of Disabled AAPI in Media

Wednesday, May 26, 2021
6:30 – 7:30PM

It is vital to ensure authentic disability representation, considering that disability intersects with all other underrepresented populations. While AAPI representation in film and television has seen an increase in the past few years, there is still work to be done for AAPI disability representation. In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, join RespectAbility for a discussion with AAPI creatives working in front of and behind the camera to ensure inclusive representation moving forward. ASL interpreters and live captioning will be provided.

Moderated by RespectAbility’s very own Vanni Le, panelists will include Ava Rigelhaupt (writer, actress, autistic advocate), Abigail Heringer (fashion/lifestyle influencer, The Bachelor 25), Fatima Liaqat (writer, 2021 CAPE New Writers Fellow), Kannie Yu LaPack (Senior Vice President, Publicity, Public Affairs and Social Media for Lifetime and LMN), Lila Hart (comedian), Shaina Ghuraya (director, writer’s apprentice at Netflix) and Steve Lee (comedian). Introduction will be done by Ollie Cantos (RespectAbility Vice Chair) with a video intermission by Sophie Kim (actress, The Healing Powers of Dude).
