Boat Baby: Vicky Nguyen in Conversation with Ally Love

Asia Society presents the launch of Vicky Nguyen’s memoir Boat Baby, where she shares the incredible journey of her family’s daring escape from Vietnam and her unlikely path from refugee to NBC News anchor and correspondent today. Followed by a reception with the author and moderator.

Starting in 1975, following the end of the Vietnam War, Vietnam’s ‘boat people’ fled the Communist government and violence in their country across the South China Sea. Vicky and her family were among them, surviving pirate attacks and months in a refugee camp before being sponsored to America. Boat Baby recounts her experiences growing up in America with unconventional Vietnamese parents, navigating cultural gaps, and overcoming prejudice to become a leading Asian American journalist.

She will be joined on stage by the dynamic Ally Love, a renowned host and motivational speaker, who will guide the conversation. Boat Baby will be available for sale during the event with a book signing to follow.
