Alternate Funding Workshop - Part 1: The Build

This workshop series is part of the Heritage Ambassador program and geared towards folk and traditional artists interested to grow their practice and their reach to communities.

Learn about strategies and resources for fundraising “off-the-beaten-track” of the traditional public funding available to small grassroots non-profit organizations, collectives and individual artists. In this workshop, we will discuss community and private funding sources as well as other ways to fundraise for grassroots, community-driven programming.

Part 2 will take place on Wednesday October 30th from 1-3pm. Participants must attend Part 1 to register for Part 2.

The workshops are presented by Naomi Sturm Wijesinghe,folklorist and ethnomusicologist by training and the founding Executive Director of media-arts collective, Los Herederos Naomi also serves as the Creative Traditions Program Director for City Lore, and works as an adjunct professor at The New School. From 2019-2023 Naomi served as the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Folklore Project. She has also held director positions at the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, Staten Island Arts, and several other NYC-based art non-profit organizations.
