In this ludic, comedic-drama, Huppert plays Iris, an inscrutable French teacher to two Korean women in Seoul. While perfectly at ease as a stranger in the city, her osmotic language technique (no textbooks), gamely questioning, and peculiar craving for makgeolli (a milky rice wine) arouses curiosity and awkward confusion from her clients to the mother of her young male roommate. Is Iris a naif whose enigmatic allure illuminates the souls of those she encounters? Or is she a con artist?
