The Playwrights Horizons Theatrical Fellowship Program offers excellent practical experience in continued training for a career in the arts and affords an opportunity to collaborate closely with and learn from some of the top professionals in the American theater. The program also offers weekly targeted professional development and a cumulative final presentation. During our 2023/24 season fellowships will be offered in:
- Stage Management
- Artistic/Literary
- Casting
- Marketing
- General Management
Because Fellows are fully integrated in the day-to-day life of the organization, a fellowship at Playwrights offers significant marketable experience in one’s chosen field. This hands-on work experience is paired with a professional development curriculum aimed at expanding your industry knowledge, professional network, and further opportunities. Many program alumni have gone on to become some of the most active directors, writers, composers, and administrators in the country. In addition, many current Playwrights staff members are former Fellows.
Playwrights Horizons offers all Fellows an hourly rate of $15 to help offset the costs of housing and other living expenses. General Management and Marketing Fellows join the staff three days per week. Artistic and Casting Fellows join the staff four days per week. Stage Management Fellows join the creative team six days per week when in production. Fellows also receive unlimited MetroCards (a monthly value of $127) for the duration of the fellowship, a professional development stipend, and complimentary theater tickets.
