OVERVIEW

The SummerScape Hiring Manager position is a remote, full-time, seasonal position, from mid-March to mid-May with the possibility of continued part-time work leading up to and including the 2021 SummerScape festival. This position will develop a remote system for hiring 75-100 people to work and live in a COVID safety compliant “bubble” on the Bard campus supporting the SummerScape Festival, which spans the tentative time period of June through August. The positions to be filled include roles in production, company management, front of house, audience services, general administration, COVID compliance and more. The hiring practices developed by the SummerScape Hiring Manager will reflect a streamlined, open, and equitable process that cultivates a skilled and diverse summer staff and will serve as a blueprint for the recruitment process going forward.

This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the General Manager, and the Directors/supervisors of each department. These include the following departments: Production, Marketing and Audience Services, Artistic Planning/Producing, and Development.

This remote, contracted position’s term will be March 15 through May 15, with a possibility of role amendment and extension leading up to and including the SummerScape festival.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the Fisher Center and SummerScape Festival, its staffing needs, and institutional goals in equity, diversity and inclusion, particularly as it applies to building a more diverse staff

  • Build working relationships with each department to understand their staffing needs and qualifications required

  • Manage advertisement of open positions (actively recruit and broaden outreach through online postings, virtual job fairs, and personal outreach to relevant networks)

  • Manage filing system for applications

  • Review and revise existing job descriptions, create new job descriptions where necessary

  • Review, organize and develop a pay rate system that works across the organization

  • Create and coordinate a remote interview process, including conducting first round screening interviews

  • Generate a hiring tracking system and status reports for department heads

  • Develop online onboarding process

  • Trouble -shoot ongoing issues through the Festival

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Experience working effectively remotely

  • 2-5 years recruiting, human resources, or administrative experience

  • Experience in working in arts organizations a plus

  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

  • Creative and innovative thinker, particular in building equitable hiring practices
